2014-07-09 2nd Dryland User Consultation Meeting in Bonn, Germany

Experts from UNCCD, SCBD, GEOBON, JRC, national focal points and other scientists met to discuss land productivity indicators. The workshop was considered a big success in reflecting on the essential questions of how to implement which products for the UNCCD and CBD reporting duties. In this way it was extremely useful for the further definition and dissemination of the project outcomes for drylands.

2014-06-30 Release of MPH algorithm plugin for the BEAM toolbox

The revised maximum peak height (MPH) algorithm developed in the scope of Diversity II was released as a plugin for the BEAM toolbox. The algorithm gives estimates of chlorophyll-a for near-coastal and inland waters as well as identification of cyanobacteria blooms and floating vegetation from MERIS L1B data corrected for Rayleigh effects. 2013-03-20 Qualification and Acceptance Review meeting in Innsbruck

The team gathered in Innsbruck on 19 - 20 of March for the Qualification and Acceptance Review (QAR) meeting.

The objective of the meeting was the verification that the end-to-end processing chains are compliant with the Requirements Baseline and with the Technical Specification approved at CDR, and are ready for the production.

2013-10-18 CBD SBSTTA 17 meeting in Montreal

Marc Paganini (ESA) highlighted the contribution of remote sensing and observation data in monitoring biodiversity trends. The seventeenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) was held in Montreal. As a subsidiary body of the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP), SBSTTA is to report regularly to the COP on all aspects of its work.

 

2013-10-01 Pre Critical Design Review meeting in Esrin

The team gathered in Esrin between 30.09.-1.10.2013 for the Pre Critical Design Review meeting (pre-CDR).

The objectives of the meeting were to agree on the content of the Algorithm Theoretic Baseline document (ATBD v2), the Technical Specification (TS v2) and the Product Quality Report (PQR v1) as well as to discuss the Requirements Baseline document (RB v3).

The Preliminary Design Review (PDR) meeting took place in Sigtuna, Sweden between 27-28 June.

The principal objective of the meeting was to assess to which level the user requirements, as documented in the Requirements Baseline document (RB v2), can be met with the best available scientific solutions for both surface parameter retrievals and indicators.

Between 26th and 27th of June the first User Consultation Workshop of the Diversity II project took place in Sigtuna, Sweden.

It was attended by Biodiversity and Earth Observation user communities in order to critically review preliminary products and the validation plan and to review and discuss the Technical Specification (TS v1) and the Product Quality Report (PQR v0).

2012-12-14 System Requirements Review meeting in Stirling

The System Requirements Review (SRR) meeting took place in Stirling between 13-14 December.

One objective of the meeting was the review and approval of the scientifically proved Algorithm Theoretic Baseline document (ATBD v1). Another objective was to give guidance to the consolidation of the Requirements Baseline document (RB v1) in order to verify that the user requirements and the best available retrieval algorithms constitute a good and solid foundation for the system engineering.

2012-10-16 Side event at COP 11 in Hyderabad, India

The side event "Space observations for inland water biodiversity" showed how satellite observations can contribute to the assessment and monitoring of biodiversity in freshwaters, and in particular in wetlands and in large perennial inland waters (natural lakes and water reservoirs). Organised by the European Space Agency with the participation of the CBD Secretariat, the Ramsar Secretariat and the GEO Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO-BON).
